When do Brazilian SGOs publish their key reporting documents?

Exclusive: based on 33 ranked Brazilian SGOs in good standing, thedotgood shines a light on how soon Brazil’s leading social good organizations make their audited financial statements and their annual report public after their fiscal year closes. This edition reads fiscal year 2024, the last complete year. This benchmark is part of thedotgood’s Informational Health Check of SGOs, which looks at what an organization makes public, how complete it is, and when. Info-biorhythm is the timing side of that check: how soon after year-end, and how steadily, an SGO makes its key reporting documents public. The median delay for these SGOs to make their key documents public is shown below.

So far, public evidence shows 26 of the 33 with their audited statements out and 18 with their annual report, at a median of day 135 and day 147. The others have no public date yet, at day 285 after year-end (Oct. 12, 2026). This line is updated until the year is complete.

Why timing matters

A funder, a partner or a journalist who checks an organization wants a current picture of it. The annual report tells what the organization does, for whom, with which people and to what effect; the audited financial statements show the resources behind that work. Made public in the spring, these documents describe a year that is still fresh; made public in the autumn, a year already well behind.

Timing is part of informational transparency. thedotgood calls it info-biorhythm: how soon after year-end the organization makes its annual report and audited statements public, and how steady that timing is year after year.

What the figures show

For fiscal year 2024, the median of the Brazilian SGOs in the panel made its annual report public 184 days after the Dec. 31 year-end, and its audited financial statements 188 days after it: about six months, in early July 2025.

Their auditors had signed at day 122. Once signed, half the panel’s audited accounts went public within about two weeks: most of the delay comes before the audit is signed, not after.

A quarter of the panel published its audited statements by early May; another quarter waited until mid-August or later. More than half the panel, 18 of 33, made its audited statements public more than six months after year-end. The fastest made its audited statements public 50 days after year-end; the slowest, 500 days after it.

What the figures do not say

Speed is not quality: a fast report can be thin, and a later one thorough. The benchmark measures when documents became public, from public evidence only; it does not score them. Brazilian law sets its own requirements, described on the Brazil country page: this benchmark shows practice, not obligation.

How it is measured

SGOs rarely print a publication date on these documents. thedotgood establishes it through its own research and regular inspections of each SGO’s website. Each document is dated by when the SGO made it public, from public evidence only: the date it appeared on the SGO’s site, the file’s own date on the SGO’s public copy, or its first capture by the Internet Archive’s Wayback Machine. Copies sent privately to thedotgood and later re-postings do not count. A signature date is not a publication date. SGOs also share data and files with thedotgood directly. For this benchmark, thedotgood uses only the date each document first appeared on the SGO’s official website or public channel.

Each SGO counts once. Medians are read on fiscal year 2024, the last complete year: every SGO has had time to publish, so late publishers are not missing from the count. A median, not an average: one late publisher does not tilt it. At least 25 SGOs, or no benchmark.
