Few such social good organizations have reached their tipping point for scaling, though still growing in spirit and impact, and yet keeping it all human.

JA Worldwide operates and supports an international network of entities addressing the youth, with their hope and desire to contribute to their world. Creativity and innovation flow from every door and window. With JA Worldwide, we are at the heart of the Youth workshop of the planet, getting them ready to thrive in an entrepreneur world with more than a single bottom line in mind.

It is massive and impressive, and having a lasting and profound impact precisely because JA Worldwide is having a meaningful conversation with tomorrow’s adults.

History

Junior Achievement (JA) was founded in 1919 by Theodore Vail, president of American Telephone & Telegraph; Horace Moses, president of Strathmore Paper Co.; and Senator Murray Crane of Massachusetts. Our first offering, the JA Company Program, trained high-school students to run their own small businesses through after-school clubs.

By 1955, JA had established a location in British Columbia, Canada, our first outside the United States. Twenty years later, we broadened our scope, moving from after-school programs into the classroom with the introduction of Project Business for the middle grades.

Since then, JA's hands-on, immersive educational programs—about half of which are are taught in the classroom and the other half through after-school opportunities—have spread across the world, reaching more than 12 million young people each year.

Today, JA Worldwide is one of the world’s largest youth-serving NGOs, with 350 locations in 115 countries that are served by six regional operating centers: JA Africa, JA Americas, JA Asia Pacific, JA Europe, INJAZ Al-Arab JA MENA, and Junior Achievement USA. Each region hosts our well-known Company of the Year competitions, which went all-virtual two years ago and today use high-tech resources, including online trade fairs driven by augmented and virtual reality, to showcase the business acumen of young entrepreneurs around the world. Last year, JA Worldwide introduced our first-ever Global Entrepreneurship Award, selecting a global champion from among our six regional winners.
