Agência do Bem is certified as a social good organization. By definition, it is non-profit and has no religious or party affiliation. The mission is to promote human development aiming at the full citizenship of low-income populations, through education, in a transparent and sustainable way.
It began its activities in 2005, in the community of Vargem Grande, Rio de Janeiro. In 2010, an expansion process began by opening new centers of activity in Vargem Pequena and Cidade de Deus (City of God).
Over the years, several actions and projects have been implemented in the areas of education, health, art, culture, food security, communication and community mobilization, defense of human rights, among others, benefiting thousands of residents of these locations.
In 2012, Agência do Bem opened a new front of action: Network of Organizations for Good (Rede do Bem), which already brings together more than 500 social entities, especially community-based ones.
The objective of this network is the institutional strengthening of the participants, the training of their managers and the dissemination of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), bringing the UN global agenda to the local reality of communities in Rio De Janeiro and São Paulo.
Currently, Agência do Bem has 27 community centers of action, with direct administration and partnerships in six states of Brazil: Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Santa Catarina, Distrito Federal, Bahia, Ceará.
